Comprehensive vs collision deductible: which one applies?
Your policy has two deductibles. Which one you pay depends on what hit your car, and that decides how much we can save you.
Collision
You hit something or something hit you while driving: another car, a pole, a curb, a rollover. Collision coverage pays, minus your collision deductible. In the Phoenix area that is usually $500 or $1,000.
Comprehensive
Anything that isn't a collision: hail, flood, fire, theft, vandalism, a cracked windshield, a javelina, a monsoon tree limb. Comprehensive pays, minus the comprehensive deductible, which is often lower than collision ($0 to $500 is common). Many Arizona policies cover glass with no deductible at all.
The gray areas
Hit a deer: comprehensive. Swerved to miss a deer and hit a fence: collision. Parked car hit by a runaway shopping cart: usually comprehensive, sometimes collision depending on the carrier. Your adjuster decides; we document the damage so the right coverage applies.
What we waive
Up to $1,000 of whichever deductible applies to a qualifying repair. If your comprehensive deductible is $250, you pay $0. If your collision deductible is $1,000, you pay $0.

Common questions
Does a comprehensive claim raise my rates?
Generally less than a collision claim, since it wasn't your fault. Ask your agent.
Can one accident trigger both?
Rarely, but yes: a crash followed by a fire, for example. Each has its own deductible, and we waive up to $1,000 on the qualifying repair.
Hail dented the whole car. Is that covered?
Yes, under comprehensive. We do paintless dent repair for hail and waive up to $1,000 of the deductible.
