Scratch and paint repair cost
A scratch you can't feel with a fingernail is one price. One that's through to the metal is another. And after a few Arizona summers, 'a scratch' is sometimes really 'the clear coat is going.' Here's the breakdown.
Scratches, by depth
Clear-coat only (you can't catch a fingernail): buffed out, $75 to $200.
Into the color coat: the panel is refinished and blended, usually $350 to $700 per panel.
Through to primer or bare metal, or a key scratch down the side: each affected panel is refinished, $400 to $650 per panel, so a four-panel key job lands around $1,500 to $2,400.
Peeling clear coat and sun damage
Phoenix sun breaks down clear coat on roofs, hoods and trunk lids first. Once it's peeling, there's no buffing it; the panel has to be sanded and refinished. Roof or hood alone: roughly $500 to $900. If the whole car is going, a full repaint is the better value: see our full paint job pricing.
Why blending matters
Paint fades over years and no color code matches a 6-year-old finish exactly. A proper repair sprays the damaged panel and fades the new color into the panels beside it so there's no line. Cheap paint jobs skip the blend; you can see the panel in daylight. Best Deal and Insurance Quality levels always blend; Economy spot-refinishes, and we say so on the estimate.
How the photo estimate works
- Your name, number and emailSo we know where to send it. Thirty seconds.
- Three photos of the damageWhole side of the car, close-up, and another angle. Your phone camera is fine.
- Snap your VINThe sticker in the driver's door. It tells us the exact year, model, trim and paint code so the estimate is for your car, not a guess.
A Best Deal estimator reviews every request personally. Your written estimate with three repair levels comes by email, usually the same business day.

Can touch-up paint fix it?
For a chip or a tiny scratch, yes, and it's the right call. For anything longer than an inch it will show more than the scratch did.
Is it worth fixing a scratch on an older car?
If you're keeping it, often yes for the roof and hood before the clear coat goes. Send photos; we'll tell you honestly if it's not worth it.
Does insurance cover vandalism scratches?
Comprehensive coverage does, minus your deductible. A keyed car is often above the deductible, and the waiver can apply.
